Westbank Library Student Scholarship Application

 

Westbank Library awards up to $500 in scholarships annually to dependents of library patrons who are currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution, with preference given to those whose parents have contributed to the library through donations or volunteer work. The annual application process begins in early June and runs through early August; all applicants must submit their information by the application deadline. Applicants who are accepted will be notified via phone call shortly thereafter. All applications must be submitted electronically, and students should check back frequently for any updates or changes that might occur throughout the application period.

The purpose of this Scholarship
To award $500 scholarships to qualified Westbank Library Students for use toward higher education expenses. The scholarship will be awarded based on financial need, academic achievement, and personal commitment to community service, with preference given to students currently attending high school or college who reside in Westbank Parish. Scholarships are offered annually. Recipients must reapply each year they wish to receive a scholarship. Up to two (2) scholarships per application cycle will be awarded. Applicant may only apply one time per application cycle; applicants who have previously applied but not been selected may not re-apply during that same application cycle.

Eligibility Requirements
Open to all undergraduate and graduate students with at least a 3.0 GPA. Undergraduate student must be enrolled in at least 6 units, while graduate students must be enrolled in at least 9 units. Students must be pursuing a career in an education-related field (including teaching, advising, student leadership development or higher education administration). Students are required to submit two letters of recommendation and an essay (300-500 words) on why they are pursuing their chosen career path.

Selection Criteria
Applicants will be judged on two (2) criteria: academic merit and financial need. All applicants must also show evidence of dependability, motivation, and interest in learning. The available funds are limited so priority will be given to those who demonstrate a greater level of financial need. Westbank Library may make additional awards based on unanticipated funds available after review of all applications is completed. In such cases, awards will go to those students with both high academic achievement and great financial need as determined by information provided by you in your application.

Application Deadline and Submission Process
The Westbank Library is hosting a $500 scholarship competition to be used for any summer study materials. Submissions will be accepted from Friday, April 18th until Monday, May 1st. The student chosen as winner will be announced on Friday, May 9th. To apply, students must write an essay that includes a topic of their choice based on a given prompt provided by The Westbank Library. Essays should be no less than 400 words and no more than 800 words. After completing your written submission please email it to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) . Award Conditions
The scholarship is for students who attend Westbank Community College. Applicants must be enrolled in at least one course during spring 2017 and have a minimum GPA of 2.0 to apply.
